Introducing The What’s Up Next Podcast

What's Up Next?

What’s Up Next?

Paul Thompson and I are proud to release our first episode of the The What’s Up Next Podcast.  This podcast is an exploration of financial independence and taking the conversation to the next level.  The show features panel discussions with top influencers in the financial independence space.  Guests weigh in on questions that don’t have clear answers to refine your path to FI.

Episode 1:

Should real estate be a part of everyone’s path to FI?  Today we discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly with Coach Carson, Miss Mazuma, and Gwen.  Learn of their wins and losses and how their experience can be instructive in your path.

Also, listen to the very end for a short but satisfying blooper reel!

  1. Congrats on the new project! I selfishly hope this doesn’t cut into your writing – what will I drink my coffee to every morning?

  2. SAHD FIRE says:

That’s good stuff. It’d also be interesting to hear about what was involved in setting up the podcast and the return you’re getting out of them as opposed to just normal posts.

  3. Congratulations. That’s a really great job, particularly for your first podcast. At FinCon, I attended the Real Estate panel discussion with both Chad and Gwen. I think your discussion was better. The pace of the conversation was quick and there were a lot of good examples of the pitfalls and battle scars involved. All of us with skin in that game have those stories.

I’m excited to hear more episodes. Both you and Paul have great delivery and good questions.

  4. Miss Mazuma says:

I’m so honored to be on your very first podcast!! Its always a pleasure to tell my sorted tale of real estate woes. 😉 Wishing you both all the best with this new venture and I can’t wait to see What’s Up Next… get it??

❤️ Diva (Im still working on getting that name to take 😂)

    • Doc G says:

You have always been “Diva” to us. Thank you for making the first episode so great and making Paul and I look good!

  5. What a great start!! That was a very engaging discussion with great insight. It’s especially valuable to hear the failures, since we all know the “internet trap” of only hearing people’s successes. Kudos to the guests for airing those failures out too.

Great job guys, can’t wait to hear more!

  6. Chad Carson says:

Thanks for having me along with the other awesome guests. With you and Paul at the helm, this podcast can’t help but be outstanding. I’ve downloaded it to listen later in my podcast feed:)

  7. CampFI says:

Doc G and Paul, Super job! That was the first podcast I ever eavesdropped on as it was being recorded and you guys did a great job with the final product. Very excited to hear that you are working together to further the FI discussion. I will be listening to all that you release. Much success to two really good dudes.

  8. Gasem says:

Great news! Your blog is pretty much about you and your finely tuned insights, but this format will allow moderating others resulting in a bouquet of insight. I presume there will be some answer back feature like a comments section. Podcasts are good but they do require typically 45-60 of my attention where as a blog 10 min unless I respond, so they fill a different niche.

    Good luck in the adventure!

  9. David says:

As with most things, there are so many angles when discussing real estate investing. Miss Mazuma, Chad, and Gwen (and Paul) discuss much of what a person needs to hear when considering using real estate to build their FI plan. Any one of the four would have been awesome but having them all on and interacting was something special. Well done to all involved. Wishing you the best (DocG and Paul) on the new venture.

Key takeaway, “Dividends don’t use or sell drugs.” – Gwen. ….or steal your patio furniture, or give sob story after sob story, or allow their animals to destroy flooring and molding, or leave you house a smelly mess, or sublet, or fail to let you know there is a major issue with the air conditioner, or….

This is coming from someone who believes in using real estate. As Chad mentioned, it is still better than dealing with a 9-5 job you dislike.

  10. I will give it a listen. Best of luck on your podcast journey!

  11. Dragon Guy says:

Congrats on the launch today! We enjoyed listening to the episode. I thought it was interesting how everyone said they try to convince people not to get into real estate. We’ve never really had an interest in real estate and I think episode helped make us feel that it is definitely not for everyone. Looking forward to your future episodes!
