Real Time Vulnerability

Real Time Vulnerability

Real Time Vulnerability

We are releasing a bonus episode of The What’s Up Next Podcast on Thursday. This show will mark a touch of a transition on the show. The next few episodes have a much more socially conscious tone to them. They will still be the same type of panels discussing financial independence topics. But there will definitely be a more worldly twist. This has been, for the most part, intentional. By doing so, I am revealing a lot more about myself than I have before. Not just by sharing personal information, but also by the topics I choose to talk about. This results in a real time vulnerability. I am exposing myself, who I am, and what I believe in.

It’s All About Me

This bonus episode is all about me. In it, I talk about many things I have only touched lightly upon before on our as well as other podcasts. Mostly, it is about my childhood. I try to lay out not only who I am, but why I talk about the things we talk about on the show.

This is not easy for me. Although I am by no means shy about getting exposure, there is always a limit to how much I divulge. Until this episode. With this episode I will share a deeper version of what makes me who I am.

There is a real time vulnerability to such disclosures. Once I have published a blog post or a podcast, it is hard to take it back. And mostly, I don’t want to. In my experience, most of the good things in my life have been spurred on by allowing myself to be vulnerable. It is painful, but it pays off.

Almost always.

The Deeper Conversations

Real Time Vulnerability

You might by wondering why I am willing to do this. Why risk all this real time vulnerability?

The answer is simple. With this podcast, we really want to bring the discussion to the next level. We want to get far past the how and move on to the why. This requires more. It requires a deeper discussion of sometimes difficult topics.

These topics are complicated. They are touchy. Although never our intention, feelings may be hurt. Feathers may be ruffled. I certainly hope not, but I can’t promise it.

Intentions

Since I can’t promise that the podcast will deliver what I am hoping. all I can do is make my intentions clear. All we can do is try to explain who we are and what we are about.

And this brings us back to this bonus episode. With it, I hope to make it clear who I am and what my intentions are. With this real time vulnerability, I hope to set the stage for the episodes to come.

In the future, we will have a similar episode with Paul. All in due time.

Final Thoughts

I wouldn’t say that the podcast is changing. We still have the same panels, and will discuss similar financial independence topics. But, especially over the next few episodes, you will see a lot more about who I truly am. There is a real time vulnerability that is important to help the listener understand my/our intentions.

I hope you enjoy.

You is who you is, history and all, and a success by any stretch. Life is so much simpler if you be who you is and not who you think you should be. Only if you is who you is does the example attain it’s validity, which should be your goal, otherwise your just selling soap. Do not be discouraged, which in it’s essence means do not be without courage.

Look forward to listening, apologies I cannot reciprocate (for now). Perhaps once I exit ‘accumulation mode’ one day.

I’m sure the definition of ‘irony’ must have an entry about anonymously commenting on a blog post that is about transparency…

Is it easier to be more transparent as a successful person, financial or otherwise, or are there other aspects about one’s personality / character that determine how easy difficult it is to be vulnerable and let others in?

Remember, I am still relatively anonymous. There are more technical reasons for this. i have shared much vulnerability, online, under my real name.

  3. I am looking forward to it. Few people are very open. We are happy to share the fun, easy things, along with our advice. But sometimes familiarity breeds contempt. Recently, when the political dust-up in the FIRE world happened, I suppose that was also in a similar vein as far as vulnerability. Different as far as the topic, but that honesty of opinion definitely stirred the pot. I like the concept that it will reveal the “Why”.

I hope you enjoy it. I have told many of my stories before but not in such a granular way. I think for this podcast to me a success, some vulnerability is necessary. The next few episodes really required vulnerability from our guests.
