Gratitude Wednesday
Gratitude Wednesday
There is only one downside to this great financial independence community. Everyone is just too damn accomplished! While safely setting aside my own insane jealousy, it’s impossible not to be awe-inspired by the creativity and talent of this great group of people. This series of posts is called gratitude Wednesday posts. This gives me a chance to recognize/promote individuals who have knocked me off my feet by engaging, writing grade A material, or being extremely social media savvy. I would die for the skills, intelligence, and downright friendliness of the writers highlighted today. I will purposefully focus on what I think of as emerging blogs. Everybody already knows about the websites that garner millions of page views a year. I will focus on the future movers and shakers.
Marriage, Kids and Money

In His Own Words:
Andy Hill here.
I’m 36, married and have two beautiful (and crazy) kids. My ever-present number one priority is ensuring Nicole, Zoey and Calvin (my family) have the best lives possible.
So far, we’ve had some exciting financial wins as a family like …
- Paying off $48,032 of debt in 1 year
- Becoming completely debt free by paying off our $195,000 home mortgage in less than 4 years.
- Increasing our Net Worth from -$50,000 to $700,000 in 7 Years
I’m feeling very hopeful about our family’s future. I want to share that excitement, the details on our past successes (and failures) and plans for our next steps with you.
Outside of our family’s financial journey, every week I’m interviewing the best and brightest minds when it comes to your finances. The knowledge I absorb from these gurus is shared with you, the readers and listeners of the Marriage, Kids and Money community. I’ve spoken with millionaire entrepreneurs, financial industry executives and early retirees all with the goal of helping YOU win with money.

The Flawed Consumer
Have You Read The Latest Post: Switch off: How to save money on coffee
In His Own Words:
The Flawed Consumer is a Generation Y consumer who recently turned 30 and freaked the fuck out about it. During aforementioned freakout, I started to realise just how much money my beloved and I have become accustomed to spending each fortnight in comparison to what we used to spend as Uni students. This got me thinking…
Freaked out, but inspired, I decided that we had to make a change in our lives. Surely if we could survive on less than $20,000 a year as Uni students, we could survive on a lot less than we are on about 4 times as much each gross per year. So, I decided to start making some simple changes to our lifestyle and spending habits, which hopefully add up to a lot collectively.
My aim is to be able to get the point over the next 5 years where I am able to save 50% of my net income (and hopefully my beloved’s too!). I am hoping that the lifestyle and attitude changes we make over the next five years will establish enough of a foundation to be able to continue to save 50% of my net income and hopefully retire early (55 would be nice, 50 even better… 45 would be the dream).
